Free ePub  mobi Bezonken rood ñ Paperback Bezonken roodJeroen Brouwers wants us to dislike him; to understand the full impact of his unfeeling volatile cowardly self because if we reach the conclusion that he is a horrible selfish person then we will begin to comprehend how the three or so years he spent with his mother grandmother and sister in a Japanese POW camp in Indonesia distorted his childhood and from then on his entire view of humankind but most especially of women And he succeeds He is as he presents himself utterly unlikable but in what might be judged to be a defensive reflexive move he lays out his faults before we can enumerate them The details he gives of the life endured by the boy he was are calculated to shock and they do Hearing of death he says became like hearing of rain for most people so commonplace did it become and as a boy of five or l

Free ePub  mobi Bezonken rood ñ Paperback Bezonken rood'Sunken Red' is a harsh tale about a traumatic experience in a japanese detention camp in Indonesia The author who was a toddler at the time got mentally scarred The experience prevented him to have a normal relationship with women and especially his mother who becomes and alienated And then she dies Brouwers does not want our empathy though I often felt repulsed but was also drawn in by his remarkable use of words and his ability to structure a plot I guess I

Free ePub  mobi Bezonken rood ñ Paperback Bezonken roodThis book was a rollercoaster It leaves you just as unsteady and confused as when you get out of the cart after going through 5 loopings and I haven't figured out yet if that's a good or a bad effectI may have a hard time rating this book because I dislike the writer Jeroen Brouwers so much I think 255 stars is what I'd give if I hadn't seen his interviews in which he is incredibly impolite and stuck up before reading this Short review of my main likes and dislikes on this book1 The main character is not likeable at all This book is sort of an autobiography but not everything that is described has really happened in Brouwer's life It has however happened to other people who were in the Japanese concentration camps says Brouwers Sure his personality was shaped like that because of the first years in his life spend in the camps but that doesn't mean I dislike him any less He's disrespectful sexist pessimistic and down right creepy He doesn'

Free ePub  mobi Bezonken rood ñ Paperback Bezonken roodThe little 100 pages autobiographical book of Jeroen Brouwers talks about the horrors that happened in the Japanese concentration camps of Indonesia memories which seemed to be so easily forgotten and ignored although they were no less terrible and shocking than Hitler's atrocities It doesn't seem fair people should know about all these things and not allow some of them to sink into oblivion as if they'd never existedAs a child the writer was imprisoned into a women's camp together with his mother and sister What happened then has marked him for life and the book is full of comments and surrealistic philosophica

Free ePub  mobi Bezonken rood ñ Paperback Bezonken roodThis was the first Brouwers ° 1940 I've read so finally I can imagine how controversial this author can be You can read this book as a sharp indictment against the atrocities the Japanese military commited in the prisoner camps in Indonesia in the second World War when this was a Dutch colony So this is interesting as an historical document and when it was published in 1981 it provoked uite a stir as Brouwers intended he was especially indignant about the way the victims themselves laughed away their time in the campsBut this little novel is also about Brouwers himself about his reaction to the news of the death of his mother with whom he spent several years in a Japanese camp Brouwers had broken with his mother years ago and his first reaction is so what?; but you can see him wrestling with this apathy and the very different feelings he has a

Free ePub  mobi Bezonken rood ñ Paperback Bezonken roodShort books usually lack a certain depth and tend to make me feel like they're incomplete Not this one I can see why this book is considered a Dutch classic The writing is incredible Small details that don't seem important but keep coming back turn out to be very important when they are explained a couple of pages or chapters later A word of warning though this one's not for the fainthearted Zoals in de tuin nadat de wind voorbij is nog geruime tijd alles in beweging blijft dat door de wind is aangeraakt zo zou datgene wat ik in het Tjidengkamp heb gezien nog drie à vier decenniën in mij in beweging blijven om pas door dezen tot rust te worden gebracht wat i

Free ePub  mobi Bezonken rood ñ Paperback Bezonken roodJust like with Anna Frank's Diary I feel like I am not to judge this book I am not certain what I would score it I feel as the author experienced all the things that have happened here that I have no right to judge this book since it is truth I can't say how many stars I'd give or if I liked or disliked this book That is not what it is about

Free ePub  mobi Bezonken rood ñ Paperback Bezonken rood275I couldn't bring myself to like this book As much as I tried to sympathize with the writer I ended up reading it with a constant feeling of disgust A complex character can be written way better than this and I do not understand how this is regarded as good Dutch literature Next week I have a lecture on this book I truly hope that it'll make me see or even understand the high appreciation towards this book but I highly doubt it
